The redfishing, snook, and baby tarpon fishing has been on fire on the lower stages of the tides.  We have been sightfishing these guys and they have been a ton of fun.  This is definitely the time of year for a slam!
As we move into the Fall, the fishing should only get better with the push of bait down the Gulf Coast.  Give me a call or  email to get out on the water!  Best part about this time of year is we rarely see another boat all day!

Alot of craziness going on in the world at the moment. Everything is closing down including a lot of the ramps in South Florida. Flamingo has been closed down for a few weeks now, so the only access into Everglades National Park is through Everglades City and Chokoloskee. The good thing is the park waters remain open. I will be fishing out of EC or Chokoloskee until Flamingo opens back up. I have had most of my trips in April cancelled due to travel restrictions and closures. If you are local and want to get out for a day on the water in complete isolation, give me a call or email. Here is what has been going in the Everglades the last few weeks-

We had our first real cold front of the season.  The weather dipped down tot he 50s and the water temp dipped down to the high 60s.  That’s cold by South Florida’s standards. Before the cold front there big tarpon in Whitewater Bay.  After the front the tarpon left town but will be back once it warms up again.  That will be the pattern for the next few months.

The snook fishing continues to be excellent with lots of fish around and it should only get better as we move into the winter months.  This is some of my favorite fishing of the year.  Bushwhacking our way back to some remote lakes and pons which can result in some incredible snook fishing.

Fishing continues to be pretty good down in the Everglades.  There has been a big push of bait down the Gulf Coast, which has kept plenty of fish on the coast.  We have had some great tarpon fishing when the wind lays down bit, with plenty of fish in the 10-50lb range.  I suspect some bigger fish will show up over the next few weeks with the push of mullet south.
The snook and redfishing has also been great with all the bait around.  We have caught them from the deep in the backountry to the coast.  A lot of smaller fish hanging around which is always a good sign for the fishery!
I do have some fall dates open, so give me call or email to get out of the water!

The fishing down in Everglades National Park has been nothing short of epic.  Lots of medium tarpon, ranging from 20-40 pounds, eating small fry bait on the Gulf Coast.  They have been very willing to eat a fly or a plug.  We have been getting them on flies almost every trip out.  Constantly putting the fly in their face has been the key.

The snook fishing has also been excellent.  We have caught fish from the Gulf to deep in the backcountry.  It has been great to see so many snook around.  We have crushed them on both fly and jigs.  They have ranged in size from 20 in.-35 in.

The biggest surprise has been the redfish.  There has been a big insurgence of smaller fish in the Everglades.  We have caught tons of under slot reds.  This has been great to see and a good sign of things to come.

It has been a very rainy season and that is about all you can ask for in the Everglades.  Keeping the Everglades hydrated is the most important thing for the entire ecosystem.  Keeping the salinity levels down is very important to the grass flats and all of Florida Bay.  In the backcountry, the rain keeps the water extremely clear which the snook and redfish like.  We saw this last year right after Hurricane Irma.  Irma dumped a ton of rain which flushed out the whole backcountry area.  The snook fishing thrived because of it.  Then this spring, we had some dry periods and with without freshwater regulating the salinity levels, it get really dirty.  That makes for very tough fishing.

September is typically a great time to fish in the Everglades.  The fishing is as good as it gets all year and you don’t have to worry about anyone else being out there.  That has been the case over the last few weeks.

Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend.  Just wanted to give you a quick update on how the fishing has been in the Everglades.  There are still plenty of tarpon around to target, we have gotten into them on fly and spin.  Most of the fish have been in the 30-50lb range, with a few in the 60lb class.  The snook fishing has also been very good.  There has been some bigger fish out near the Gulf and lots of smaller fish in to the backcountry. The redfish has been the big surprise lately.  We have ran into a bunch of 15-18in redfish all along the Gulf coast.
We have had lots of rain in the Glades this summer and that is a good thing for the entire Everglades ecosystem.   We should start to see a good push of some bigger tarpon over the next few weeks.  Give me a call or email to get on the water!  The best thing about this time of year is, the fishing is great and you hardly see another boat all day.
I  have also added a Jon boat to the fleet.  So if kicking around through the mangroves to get back to some untouched bays is your cup of tea, we can definitely do that.

We are still getting our afternoon rains which means the snook fishing in the backcountry remains excellent.  Plenty of smaller fish to mess around with but also so slot size snook hanging around with them.
I am working on a second boat at the moment.  It is going to be a jon boat to kick around in some areas I cant get the skiff into.  Some of the snook fishing in these back lakes is as good as gets, as they never see a lure or fly.  If exploring some of these hard to reach areas is of interest, let me know and we can definitely do that.
The fishing is only going to get better and I have plenty of availability over the next few weeks.  Give me a call or email to get out on the water.
All the best,

It has been a while since my last report and just wanted to give everyone an update on what is going on in the Everglades. It has been a very busy spring thus far and I have been on the water almost everyday. The tarpon fishing has been excellent with lots of fish in the 40-80lb range. We have been getting lots of bites on fly and plugs everyday. This is has been a great tarpon season with lots of fish jumped and landed. It helps when there has been this amount of fish around this season. It should be great summer fishing with these fish around.

It is hard to leave the tarpon but when we do, the snook and bass fishing has also been pretty good due to the low water levels. We have caught those fish on both fly and plugs.

I am definitely looking forward to the summer fishing! I have only a few days open in May but have some days open in June. So give me a call or respond to these email to get out on the water!

Well it has been a very interesting March in South Florida. Typically this time of year is full blown tarpon season in the Everglades , but the unseasonal cold fronts keep coming and pushing the fish out of the Everglades. We have had some warm days this month and have had some good tarpon action but very few and far between. Hopefully this will be the last cold front and we can get back to some great tarpon fishing.

The snook fishing has been pretty good on the warmer days in between the fronts. We have found lots of baby tarpon in some of the back bays and it seems like that haven’t seen a lure or fly and are very active. They have been lots of fun!

The bass fishing in the Everglades has been red hot all month and should continue with the low water levels. Always fun to catch 50-100 bass in a day.

I only have a few days open in April and a few in May. Give me a call or email to get out on the water. I suspect us to have great rest of the tarpon season after this last front!
