We are in the dog days of August right now. It is hot and the thunder storms are popping up daily. The water temps are in the high 80s and low 90s by mid day. Its hot! One way we are dealing with this is getting out extremely early in the morning. Sometimes we have left the dock at an hour before sun up. By doing so, we are getting some of the best fishing of the year. Those first few hours, right as the sun is coming up, is incredible. There is no sense of awareness for these fish and they are eating everything in sight. Last week we hooked 8 tarpon on topwater plugs just as the sun was peaking over the horizon. Most of the fish were 40-50 pounds. By the time noon rolls around the fishing really slows down but getting out early makes all the difference in the world. I have a hard time believing there is a better tarpon fishery than Everglades National Park.
