The much anticipated fly rod has finally become available to the public. I was fortunate enough to my hands on one and put it to the test in the Everglades. There are two different style rods. One is the F (feel) and the other is D (distance). The F is a little bit faster rod and perfect for quick shots and flipping under the mangroves. The D has a little more power to shoot longer distances and into the wind. I have fished with the F over the last month and absolutely love the rod. It is a perefect Everglades rod, as I have a lot of short, quick shots on fish and I fish mangrove shorelines a bunch. The F has enough backbone for being such a light rod, as we landed tarpon in the 50lb class. So far, I am really impressed with what Orvis has done with the Helios.
