Flamingo Fishing Report

We have had some crazy weather over the last few weeks. Early this month it was extremely cold and windy and now it feels like the middle of spring. With the warm weather, the big tarpon have pushed into the backcountry. This time of year we hook some of the biggest tarpon of the year. Most fish are 60-80lbs. but it is not uncommon to hook fish into the 130-150 lb class. There has been lots of fish around and we have been getting them both on plugs and flies. The snook fishing is also very good right now with the warm weather. If you can find some good clean water, then you will definitely find some snook. If this is any indication of our tarpon season, looks like we are in for a good...

Tarpon Fishing in the Everglades

This is the time of year where we get some great tarpon fishing if the weather allows. The water temps right now are ideal for big tarpon to come into the backcountry of the Everglades It has been windy this entire winter thus far, which makes fishing for them tough but still doable. These fish are typically in the 60-80lb range. Having such windy conditions, the most practical way of catching these guys are with plugs. You can cover a lot of water and wind is typically non factor. I like setting up with the wind and drifting into them while casting long distances with big plugs. Once March hits and if it stays warm, we will being fishing these guys almost...

Everglades Fishing

It is finally starting to warm back up in the Everglades which is making the fish extremely active again. Over the last few weeks water temps have dropped into the low 50s, which is really low for South Florida. The good thing is it has warmed up and I haven’t seen any dead fish in Everglades National Park like we did in 2010. The winter time snook fishing has been by far the best fishing we have had. Lots of little fish with some bigger ones mixed in. Most were caught on flies and plugs. The baby tarpon are still around and have been pretty active lately as well. The water levels have dropped significantly due to the consecutive days with 20+ knot winds. That means the snook and bass fishing should really get turned on. We had a great day catching over 40 Bass on the freshwater side of the Everglades. The big tarpon have showed up with water temps back into the 70s, but we just need the wind to lay down! Tarpon season is right around the corner and I only have a few days in early March and early April left open. I do have some availability in May to sight fish big tarpon down in the Keys with a fly rod. Give me a call or respond to this email to get out on the...

Flamingo Fishing Report

We just got another cold front that came through yesterday. This one was a quick and should start to warm up quickly. This has been a good winter so far this year with lots of cold fronts. Even thought the cold weather prevents us from having good winter tarpon fishing , the spring is usually incredible for tarpon after a cold winter. I am definitely looking forward to that. The snook fishing has been pretty good between the fronts, on the warm days. The sight fishing has also been pretty good once it warms up about mid day. My days are filling up for tarpon season, so give me a call and lets put something...

Everglades Fishing

Hope everyone is off to a great 2018. We just had a major cold front where water temperatures dipped into the mid 50s, which definitely slowed down the snook fishing. It is now back up to the high 60s and fishing has gotten better each day since. That will be the pattern for the next few months. On the days in between the fronts the big tarpon will show up if water warms up to the mid 70s. The sightfishing for redfish and snook is great this time of year because they warm themselves on the mud flats in the backcountry. If the conditions are right it can be some great fishing. Tarpon season is right around the corner and I still have a some days in March and April open to chase these monsters! I will also be doing some Oceanside tarpon fishing in May out of Islamorada and Biscayne Bay. That is pretty much some of the best sightfishing for tarpon we have down...
